WSUD Guidelines Development and Training

Healthy Waterways Partnership, Water By Design

Our staff have contributed for more than a decade to the research and development of bioretention and wetland technology and have designed and implemented systems across a variety of geographies nationally and internationally. We have shared this experience through the development of industry design guidelines and capacity building training. This includes principal authors of the Concept Design Guidelines for WSUD, Dry Tropics WSUD Guidelines, WSUD Guidelines for SEQ, and presenters of complimentary training workshops.

Most recently, in collaboration with Water By Design, we revised the 2012 Bioretention Technical Design Guidelines to incorporate the latest science and to assist WSUD practitioners working in the Great Barrier Reef catchments. The updates included the body of contemporary science and practice in bioretention and specific guidance on design adaptations for the wet tropics, dry tropics and arid zones of Queensland.   Updates to the guideline included guidance on sustaining functional vegetation during dry periods, filter media amendments for improved water holding capacity and plant species selection.  To support the guideline updates, we developed and delivered, with Water By Design, industry training workshops in Mackay, Townsville, Gladstone, Bundaberg and SEQ.
