Waterway Corridor Planning

Ipswich City Council, Logan City Council and Brisbane City Council

E2Designlab has led and participated in collaborative teams in the development of waterway corridor plans for many of the SEQ waterways, including Black Snake Creek, Bundamba Creek, Iron Pot Creek, Deebing Creek, Slacks Screek, Scrubby Creek and Norman Creek.  While these plans were developed for different clients, the fundamental approach was the same – taking a holistic approach to understanding the current issues and potential future opportunities.

Creek corridors can support many different functions including habitat, movement corridors, flood mitigation, water quality improvement, open space and recreation, transport corridors, water and sewer network locations, urban development, and rural land uses.  Previously these were planned and delivered as isolated projects. The holistic waterway corridor plans layer all these functions and activities to identify where competing outcomes exist as well as opportunities to coordinate investment.

A common vision is developed with project stakeholders based on an understanding of the catchment condition and recovery potential and actions are developed which will help to achieve this vision.  An action plan and conceptual corridor plan are then development with supporting 3D visualisations of key corridor locations.  These highly graphic waterway corridor plans provide our clients with an effective tool to communicate their vision and preferred outcomes for the waterway corridors with all relevant stakeholders.
