Green Infrastructure & Healthy Landscapes
Passively Irrigated Street Trees

Healthy Trees Delivering Stormwater Outcomes

City Green

Traditional approaches to managing stormwater, such as bioretention, do not always provide the high aesthetic and amenity outcomes desired on high profile developments.  Similarly, where space is a premium, using this space for stormwater treatment can be a conflicting outcome.  E2Designlab have been working with CityGreen to design and document the cost-benefit of trees incorporating a rooting area, most of which can be accommodated under paving, for stormwater treatment, healthy tree growth and optimised passive watering. This design can significantly reduce the area required for traditional stormwater treatment systems and provides for improved tree health and resilience.

Water Sensitive City Outcomes:

  • urban greening
  • passive and active irrigation of the urban landscape
  • stormwater quality improvement
